Garage door panels generally cannot be “repaired” like a drywall patch. Once the steel is creased or torn, it loses its strength. The repair involves removing the damaged section and sliding in a brand new one.

Replace Panels IF:

• Damage is cosmetic: Only one or two sections are dented.
• Door is relatively new: Less than 10-15 years old.
• Parts are available: The manufacturer (Clopay, Amarr, Wayne Dalton) still makes that specific model and design.

Consider a New Door IF:

• Damage is extensive: 3 or more panels are damaged. The cost of 3 panels usually equals the cost of a whole new door kit.
• Door is old/obsolete: If the door is 20+ years old, finding a matching panel is impossible.
• System damage: If the impact also bent the tracks, snapped the springs, and twisted the rollers, a total replacement is safer and more cost-effective.

The Importance of Matching

Panel replacement is an art of matching. We need to match:

1. Brand & Model: Profiles (raised panel, grooved, flush) vary slightly between brands. A Clopay panel won’t fit a Wayne Dalton door interaction.
2. Size: Height (18”, 21”, 24”) and width must be exact.
3. Thickness & Insulation: Connecting an insulated panel to a non-insulated one creates balance issues.
4. Color: We match factory colors. Note: If your door has faded, the new panel will be brighter. Painting may be required.

In NJ, salt and snow eat the bottom panel. We replace it with a fresh steel panel and a high-quality aluminum retainer + rubber seal to prevent future rot.
